BIO

AC Towery is an artist, photographer, and educator based in NYC’s Lower East Side.  Working intuitively, she pursues images which create a visual relationship through the juxtaposition of color, light, shape, texture, line and proportion.

 

Major areas of interests and research include, Photography, both present and historical practices, Women and Photography, Women and Technology, Artist Books, the Internet as an artists space, Multi-Media uses of Imagery, Contemporary Art and popular culture. 

 

For the past 20 years Towery has worked professionally in New York City at ABCnews.com, the Fashion Institute of Technology, and Parsons School of Design among other places.

 

Towery received an MFA in Visual Arts from the Visual Studies Workshop where she studied with Nathan Lyons after completing a BFA in Photography and Painting from Washington University in St. Louis where she studied with Stan Strembiki. 

 

Currently, Towery is an Associate Professor of Photography in the Music and Art department at the Borough of Manhattan Community College/CUNY.
